Warrington Youth Rowing Regatta
- Wednesday 12th July 2023

Local schools from the Youth Rowing regions based in the North West will be racing again on River Mersey at Warrington Rowing Club.
The format for the day will be very different to that of previous years. If you have not seen or witnessed it before, it is a great event in which to be involved. The participants are 12 to 14 years old who might not have had a chance to row if it were not for the Youth Rowing regions. The regatta is the culmination of their year. It will be unlike any other event that you have officiated at before!
The plan this year is to split the day into four sessions of 90 minutes, with a maximum of SIX schools to compete in each group.
Please note:
-
The youngsters in each group will race twice alongside other schools in side-by-side races
-
The course is about 300m (a shortened version of the summer regatta course)
-
Each crew will race and then turn round to race again.
-
We will time the races and use the crews' fastest time to establish a league on the day. (The second time will be used in the event of a tie-break)
-
The crew with the fastest time at the end of the day will be the champions.
-
We will have categories for girls and open (girls can row in boys’ crews if needed in this category).
-
We will also award regional champions.
-
Results will be made available throughout the day, with final results provided after the event.
-
Medals will be sent to the schools after the event.
-
This is a year 8 competition, but we can take a limited number of year 9 crews, but they MUST have been rowing during this year.
-
Crews will consist of four rowers and a cox, in stable boats
-
The coxes must be competent and not just thrown in on the day, so please start thinking about who cox will be. This is a very important role, think safety! The cox is probably the most important part of the team but if we are not happy with the cox, we will substitute them on the day. If you can't find a good cox let us know and we will provide one on the day.
The provisional times for each session are as follows
-
Session 1 (09:00 - 10:30)
-
Session 2 (10:45 - 12:15)
-
Session 3 (12:30 - 14:00)
-
Session 4 (14:15 - 15:45)
Results will appear below when available.
